Avis was born in Adair County, KY on June 15, 1918 to Lucian Powers and Lilla Ann Tarter. Her siblings, Elbert, Mabel, Gladys, Mazel, Myrtle, Finis, Velma and Russell all predeceased her.
She was also preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Hise C. Taylor; daughter, Jeanine; and son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Jane.
As a loyal member of Farmdale Baptist Church, she served as Sunday school teacher of the Dorcas class, treasurer of the Golden Glows, and enjoyed countless hours of fellowship and fun with her church family. As a resident of Seneca Place, she loved the attention and compassion of the nurses, aides, and fellow residents. She retired from JCPS after 21 years of service as an independent contract bus driver.
Avis was a square dancer, dartball player, cook extraordinaire, professional seamstress, gardener, dog-lover, and the absolute best Sister, Mom, Mother-in-law, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, and Great-great-grandmother.
She is survived by her son, David Taylor (Nancy), daughter, Vicki Brown (Charlie); grandchildren, Tim Taylor (Lydia), Tony Taylor (Dani), Stacie Reed (James), and Gregory Taylor (Tabitha); nine great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and her beloved Angel.
As we mourn her passing, we gratefully celebrate her life. She was a humble role model whose counsel, determination, courage, caring, and fun-loving spirit will forever be remembered. Our lives have been richly blessed by her unfailing optimism and steadfast love for all of us.
