Obituary for Albert "Al" Lockard Jr.

Albert Lockard, Jr., 95, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on June 5th, 2021.

Albert was born October 6, 1925 to the late Albert Sr. and Lillian (Phelps) Lockard in Louisville, KY. He was on the football and track teams of DuPont Manual High School, and graduated with the class of 1943 1/2.

After graduating from high school, Al was enlisted in the Marines at age 18 years old. He was deployed to Japan during World War II; after an honorable discharge, he attended Centre College on the GI bill, where he also played football.

He graduated from the University of Louisville with a bachelor's in history. Al became a high school history teacher at Eastern High School, and went on to work and retire from AT&T, formerly Southern Bell Telephone Company.

Al and Nancy met at the Rathskeller in the Seelbach Hotel, and were married September 4th, 1948; they had three beautiful daughters.

He was a member of Southeast Christian Church for 50 years, where he volunteered at the sports center, ushered, and worked with the accounting team. He was also an avid golfer and member of Woodhaven Country Club.

Albert was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy, of 65 years; his two sisters, Rheda Pulliam and Wanda Jackson; son-in-law, Lowell Bosley; and one grandson, Brent.

Al is survived by his sister, Marilyn Whited; three daughters, Sharon Doane, Gail Bosley, and Ellen Burks (Steve); four grandchildren, Bryan Hardy (Gisselt), Ben Bosley (Erin), and Katie(Mike) and NIck Burks; and four great-grandchildren, Chapman, Casey, and Evelyn; and Paxton.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., Saturday, June 12th, 2021, at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd., with service following visitation at 4:00 p.m. .

The family wishes to extend many thanks to the staff at Klondike Manor and Al's caregivers.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to Hikes Point Christian Church.
