Obituary for Alma Louise Wilding (Redman)

Alma Louise Wilding, 89, of Jeffersonville, passed away peacefully to her Heavenly home on Thursday, August 25th, 2022. She was born in Louisville in 1932. Alma married Ed on July 15th, 1950 and moved shortly thereafter to Fort Hood, Texas, where Ed was called to active duty and their first child, Barbara, was born. When they returned home to Louisville, Alma spent her early years of marriage raising children, keeping house, and delighting others with her talents in gardening and cooking.

Ed and Alma designed and built a cabin at Rough River Lake and spent many weekends there with family and friends, enjoying the peace and beauty of nature and fun evenings with card games and occasional Prairie Home Companion on the radio, with no television to spoil our time together. What cherished memories! The family also vacationed often at Daytona Beach, and Alma and Ed retired to nearby Port Orange where they loved living the Florida lifestyle.

They were active members of Covenant United Methodist Church where they made life-long friends. During these Florida years, Alma volunteered at the Hospice thrift store where she set up eye-catching displays and demonstrated a keen eye for vintage items. In 2008 the couple returned to Kentuckiana, where they discovered more friends and fun at Stonecreek Village in Jeffersonville.

Alma’s appreciation of literature, history, and the finer things is reflected in her personal collection of vintage history books, linens, lace, and handkerchiefs, of which she became a very knowledgeable and meticulous curator. Alma was an avid reader, budding artist, poet, and lyricist who created in order to spread joy to those she loved. Her generosity in all gifts was apparent to everyone she knew, and her intuitive and engaging conversational skills ensured she never met a stranger.

Alma was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Ed Wilding, Sr., their beloved son Edwin “Larry” Wilding, Jr.; her parents, Alan and Gladys (Hohn) Redman; and her two brothers, George and John Redman.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Barbara Shelton (Terry) and Karen Gibson; her daughter-in-law, Karen Wilding; her grandchildren, Scott (Tonya), Kimberly (Jason), Joshua, and fiancée, Ana; Bethany, and Valerie (Brenden) and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Sunday, August 28th, 20222, 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm, at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. Her funeral service will be Monday at 12pm at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Cave Hill Cemetery.
