Obituary for Anna B. Flaherty (Burgin)

Anna B. Flaherty passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, January 29, 2022. She was 88 years old.

Ann worked 20+ years for the Archdiocese of Louisville at various parishes. She was also an office manager at Dr Robert Kasting dental practice for many years.

Ann was strong in her faith and was a long-time member of St. Martha and St. Louis Bertrand parishes. Her children and grandchildren were her world. She loved them very much and was proud of all of them.

She enjoyed shopping, talking on the phone with friends, and watching sports. She especially loved cheering on the Louisville Cardinals and Lamar Jackson. She would never let family or friends miss a game. Ann was known for her strength and resilience through adversity which served her well as she battled through her illnesses until the very end.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William E. Burgin and Martha L. Burgin; and her three siblings, Lewis H. Burgin, Paul J. Burgin, and Lillian Durr; her daughter, Donna F. Stanke; and her loving husbands, Donald O. Carroll and Charles F. Flaherty.

She is survived by her son, Charles Flaherty (Lisa); her daughter, Kelly Hommrich (Brian Mattingly); her son-in-law, Mark Stanke; her grandchildren, Andrew Stanke, Charlie Stanke, Michael Hommrich, Courtney Flaherty, Caroline Flaherty, Ashley Hommrich, Kendrick Flaherty; and her great-grandchild, Remi Novy; her sisters-in-law, Dodie Flaherty and Blanche Carroll; her cousin, Ruth Ann Hass; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Visitation will be at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd., Louisville, KY 40205 on Wednesday, Feb 2, 2022, 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Louis Bertrand Church, 1104 S 6th St, Louisville, KY 40203, on Friday, Feb 4, at 9:30 am, with burial immediately following at Calvary Cemetery.

We would like to give special thanks to our Hospice team: Betsy, Cheri, Shannon, and Dr. Earnshaw.

We are also grateful for our overnight care team: Caroline, Joy, and Brooke, as well as all of our very dear family and friends who spent so much time with her over the past several months.

Their kindness, love, and care during the last few months has meant the world to our family. Their presence was an integral part of fulfilling her wish to stay at home.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to Catholic Charities or Hosparus of Louisville.
