Obituary for Anthony Joseph Siegel, M.D.

Anthony Joseph Siegel, M.D., 67, of Louisville, KY died peacefully on August 7, 2022 surrounded by the love of his family, both near and far.

He was born on August 2, 1955 to Cecelia Mae Karem Siegel and John Joseph Siegel, Sr. As the baby of six whose five siblings adored him endlessly, Tony spent his early years growing up in the West End before moving to Cannons Lane where he started first grade at Holy Spirit School.

He was a very proud graduate of Trinity High School where he met his lifelong friends he considered brothers. As one of his friends recently said, "Tony was the heart and soul of the class of 1973." He went on to graduate from The University of Louisville and the University of Louisville School of Medicine, where he completed a four year residency in psychiatry. He held a lifetime certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

He has been a medical director for 12 different healthcare organizations and held academic and clinical professorships at several medical schools and universities. He most recently practiced tele-psychiatry for the past 14 years. His greatest professional passion was training future psychiatrists to practice with compassion, knowledge, collaboration and humor.

Tony forever felt his purpose in this world was to be the best father he could possibly be. To say he was successful is an understatement. His four beautiful children were his passion. He took joy in everything they accomplished, big and small. Just spending time together was his greatest joy. Being Papa to his two beautiful grandsons filled his heart beyond measure. He has left an incredible legacy that will live on in each of their hearts and lives.

Tony navigated this world with humor, integrity, determination, humility and compassion. His faith was strong. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, John Siegel. He is survived by his children, Nicholas, Benjamin (Mollie), Joseph and Maria; grandsons, Elijah David and Thomas Sean; ex-wife, Martine Bacci Siegel; siblings, Jenine (James), Christine (James), Michael (Jennifer), and Angela (Scott), and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and patients who will miss him dearly. He will never be forgotten.

Visitation will be at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road on Sunday, August 14 from 2 - 8 p.m. Tony’s Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, August 15, 11:00 a.m. at St. John Paul II Catholic Church, 3521 Goldsmith Lane.

Tony asked that memorial gifts in his honor be made to Hildegard House, P.O. Box 5613, Louisville KY 40255.
