Obituary for B.L. "Buddy" Hill Jr.

Hill, B.L. “Buddy” Jr., 75, of Shelby County, KY passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at Valhalla Post Acute and Nursing Home in Louisville. He was born in Louisville and moved to Forest Park, Georgia at a young age where he grew up and attended high school. He graduated from college in Florida and later received his master’s degree from Webster University in Louisville. He was a disabled U.S. Navy veteran who served during the Vietnam War era. Prior to retirement, he worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Buddy was preceded in death by his mother, formerly Mary V. White, his father B.L. Hill, Sr., and his niece Deborah Gail Jackson. He is survived by his life partner of 46 years Joyce Hiles, brother Ronald Lee Hill (Connie), sister Virginia Hill Harrod (Mark) and niece Jan Hill and nephew David Hill. He is also survived by many cousins including Bobby Stich (Jan) who visited him frequently at Valhalla as well as a large extended family.

He loved bowling, playing softball and golf, watching University of Louisville sports, and the Chicago Cubs. Buddy also enjoyed going to watch the races at Churchill Downs near his parents’ home in South Louisville. He was an animal lover and parented many dogs and cats in his lifetime. He could always find a way to make people laugh and grew the best tomatoes in Shelby County. He loved children and was a loving uncle to the children of Joyce’s sister Susan Perkins (Dennis) - Elizabeth (Beck), Sarah (Sam), and Mason (Melanie).

Visitation will be Saturday, January 13th, from 10am-1pm with his Memorial Service at 1pm at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to all the employees at Valhalla Post Acute for their care of Buddy since his stroke in 2021.

Buddy chose cremation and the service will be Catholic. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Disabled American Veterans (dav.org) or the Kentucky Humane Society.
