Obituary for Brent Overstreet Hardin

Brent Overstreet Hardin, 97, of Louisville, KY, passed away on December 5, 2023, at Norton Hospital, DuPont Road.

He was born in Louisville on January 29, 1926. He graduated from Male High School on June 8, 1949. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific theatre in Guam and the Mariana Islands. He was on the Honor Flight from Louisville to Washington, D.C. to commemorate the 60th anniversary of D-Day.

Lieutenant Colonel Hardin retired from the Louisville Police Department after 32 years of service. He then served for 10 years on the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department. Mr. Hardin served as president of FOP Louisville Lodge 6 and as a national FOP Trustee. He was a member of the LPOA and current chairman of the Louisville Policemen’s Retirement Fund.

He was a 50-year member of Masonic River City Lodge #960. He was a Kentucky Colonel since 1970 and past commissioner of the City of Hurstbourne.

Brent is survived by his dedicated wife of 74 years, Betty Lee Hardin. They met at her aunt’s restaurant on the day he came home from WWII and lived a life well in love.

He is survived by son Kerry B. Hardin and his wife Donna Kaye, and their daughters Abby Hardin (partner TJ) and Sara (Hardin) Cord (husband Jeremy).

He is survived by daughter Karyn Lee (Hardin) Page and her husband Harold R. Page, Jr., and their daughters Allison (Page) Cattrell (husband Marc) and Victoria (Page) Garrison (husband Matt).

He is preceded in death by son Keith Hardin. He is survived by Keith’s children Thesya (Hardin) Johnson and Brent W. Hardin.

He is also survived by great-grandchildren Kalina and Zarah Johnson, Margot and Everett Cattrell, and Audrey Garrison. Brent was preceded in passing by his parents, 4 sisters, and 2 brothers.

Brent loved his family. He was an avid horse player (sometimes known as "I had-that-horse Hardin") and enjoyed card games. He was a fan of Westerns and WWII films. He had many friends. He actively participated in numerous social events and charities.

Visitation will be held Monday, December 11, from 2:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 12, at 11:00 AM. He will be interred at Cave Hill cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations should be sent to Shriners Children’s Hospital or Kosair Children’s Hospital (Burn Unit).

Prayers and heartfelt gratitude to Mission BBQ, serving Veterans who served with honor, current armed forces local police and firefighters, and first responders. Brent Hardin loved the staff and their service!
