Obituary for Carlotta DeSpain (Priddy)

Carlotta “Carla” (Priddy) DeSpain, 78, of Prospect, KY, passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2021.

She will be extremely missed by all of her children, grandchildren and many friends, especially the ladies in her sewing and quilting at Southeast Christian Church.

In her life while serving at the Department of Veterans affairs in Washington, DC., she achieved many goals and accomplishments on behalf of all veterans and families. During those years, she served under three deputy under secretaries and the Chief of Medical Operations for all VA Hospitals.

She worked with several veterans organizations throughout the years, helping raise funds in support of their efforts to serve veterans, including USO of Kentucky. She was honored to attend two presidential balls and assorted social events. Carla helped organize and hosted a visit from the Deputy Commander of Armed Forces of Europe. She also helped host the Taiwan Dance Ballet.

Carla loved to spend time at Kiawah Island, South Carolina, with her daughters and grandchildren who live there. She will be missed by all who loved her and knew her.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Tammy Moran; her stepdaughter, Cheryl Denise of South Carolina; her parents, Willard and Sarah Priddy; one sister, LaQuieta Higgs; and two brothers, Lloyd and Steven Priddy.

She is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, Dennis DeSpain; her sons, Tony Fulks (Lisa) and Roger Fulks (Fran); her stepdaughter, Laura Ann Avery of South Carolina; 12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; four sisters, LaVieta Gravely, Joyce Sharp, Lanetta Bard, and Pam Shafer; three brothers, Alton Priddy, Paul Priddy and Michael Priddy; and son-in-law, Rob Moran.

Her memorial visitation will be Friday, February 26th, 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm, with her memorial service at 5:00 pm at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd., Louisville, KY.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or The Wounded Warrior Project.
