Obituary for Carolyn Seibert Wintergerst-Weston

Carolyn Seibert Wintergerst-Weston, 42, of Louisville, KY, passed away at Norton's Brownsboro Hospital on Friday, October 5th. Carolyn was born in Louisville to Malcolm and Mary Kevin Kupper Wintergerst on October 4th, 1976. She was a 1995 graduate of Presentation Academy and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s degree in Special Education from Spalding University. She loved soccer and played on Spalding's first soccer team. Many of her teammates became her best friends.
Carolyn grew up spending time with her siblings, her many cousins, and her friends organizing and directing their play. It was no surprise to her family that she found her true calling as a teacher. She began her journey as an educator at Saints Simon and Jude Elementary School, where she met Steffan, the love of her life. She moved to Jefferson County Public Schools to teach a short time at Mill Creek Elementary, then to Bates Elementary until the present time, where she worked as a master teacher and MTTS lead providing interventions to the students and professional development to the staff. According to her colleagues Carolyn’s dedication to and compassion for students and families was unparalleled. Perhaps her greatest gift was the ability to find the best in everyone, and she used that gift to find the hidden potential in all of the children she taught.
Carolyn was an artist who loved to draw and paint canvas, walls, and furniture. She was always in the midst of some weekend art project with her children. Sometimes, much to the chagrin of her husband, this even extended to painting rooms in their house on the day she was hosting a party. She loved to travel to the beach with her family and sit on the balcony with a glass of red wine at sunset. Most of all, though, she enjoyed spending time with those she loved, never happier than when she was surrounded by her husband, her children and those she cared about. She was a true inspiration, and that inspiration will continue to live on in all of those whose lives she touched.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Steffan; her daughters, Neville, Kyndall, Payton, and Harper; her parents, Malcolm and Kevin; her siblings, Kupper Wintergerst (Jennifer), Katie Rogers (David), and Andrew Wintergerst (Katie), her nieces and nephews, Nick, Greyson, Sophia, Audrey, Max, Anna, George and Olivia; her in-laws Sharon and Terry Johnson and David and Deborah Weston, and hundreds of loving relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
Carolyn’s spiritual life flourished through her Catholic faith, and she was an active member of Holy Trinity Parish. During her illness, Carolyn expressed appreciation for all the support she received from her CRHP group at Holy Trinity and from her college, soccer, and Bates friends. The family offers their sincere gratitude to the physicians, nurses, and staff of Norton Brownsboro Hospital and the Norton Neuroscience Institute, and the University of Louisville Physicians who cared for Carolyn, and the staff at Frazier Rehab. The family also wants to thank the many extended family and close friends who provided so much personal assistance during the months of Carolyn's illness. The members of Holy Trinity Parish, Carolyn’s close friends, and all of those who provided meals were instrumental in helping the family get through this difficult time.
