Obituary for Charles Robert Hufford

Hufford, Charles ‘Charlie’ Robert Jr., 70, of Louisville, KY. passed away Wednesday, January 17th, 2024, peacefully at his home in Prospect. Charlie was born in Louisville, attending Mother of Good Counsel, Trinity High School, and the University of Louisville’s J.B. Speed School of Engineering, where he was named Senior of the Year in 1980. From there, Charlie was successful in achieving his Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Bellarmine University. Additionally, he completed all course work required for the Doctoral program at Spalding University. Ensuring to give back to the academic community, Charlie taught Leadership & Operations Management at Jefferson Community College, while staying engaged with course development at the University of Louisville.

Charlie had a long and illustrious career in both manufacturing and consulting. Over his tenure, he made a significant impact on the business landscape, especially in the areas of Labor Relations and Lean Manufacturing. He prided himself on his ability to bring parties together – in both reality and in business – in an effort to achieve a common goal. Many of Charlie’s native principles are still being referenced today in academia. He took pride in continual education, always seeking out new and interesting disciplines.

Charlie was preceded in death by his mother, Glorita Hufford; his father, Charles R. Hufford Sr.; his father-in-law, Myrlin ‘Buck’ Traeger; as well as his brothers-in-law, Jay Hagen, Clifford Kuhl, and Tom Hills.

He is survived by his wife of 50-years, Diane Hufford; sisters, Cheryl (Hagen), Paula (Kuhl), Kathy Hufford; as well as his brother and sister-in-law, Mark & Ruth Hufford. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Carol Hills, and Mary Pat Nimon. Additionally, Charlie is survived by his four sons, Charles Robert III & Rusti (wife), Justin & Deanna, Jason & Gina (wife), and Michael Hufford. Most proudly, Charlie leaves behind eight beautiful grandchildren: Brett, Maddi, Kailey, Gabbi, Miles, Corinne, Sebastian, and Aspen Hufford.

Charlie loved spending time with his family, working, reading, running, and watching sports – especially his beloved Trinity High School, and the University of Kentucky. He believed in living a rich and well-rounded life and was a lover of all Swiss timepieces and anything German engineered. He sincerely enjoyed helping others and was always willing to reach out to those in needs. A husband – a father of men – a leader of men – adored by most – respected by all.

Visitation will be Friday, January 26th, from 4pm - 8pm, with his Memorial Service at 5 pm, at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road.
