Obituary for Clara J. Furlong
Clara J. Furlong, age 81, died on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at Nazareth Home Newburg Road.
Born in Louisville, KY to the late Annie and Joe Passafiume, Clara was a graduate of Presentation Academy (1960), St. Joseph’s Infirmary (1963), and earned her BSN at Spalding University (1985). She was a retired Registered Nurse and was employed at a number of places including: Sts. Mary and Elizabeth, Our Lady of Peace, Brooklawn, and the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth. Clara was dedicated to her nursing career and to her beloved SCN Community. She was devoted to her family, enjoyed spending time with friends and loved the Kentucky Wildcats.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John Passafiume; and a sister, Marilyn Mueller.
Clara is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Tom Furlong; her children, Kelley Furlong, Kathleen Harren (Nick), and John Furlong (Shannon); her grandchildren, Savannah, John, Jr. (Hannah), Lindsey, Killian, and Bailey; her siblings, Jerry Passafiume (Donna), Tina Ray (Bernie, deceased), Nancy Passafiume (David Vierling); and sisters and brother in-law, Judy Spears (Ron, deceased), Bill Furlong (Kitty), Jeanette Conway (Sonny); and many nieces and nephews.
Her memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church, Bardstown Road at Lancashire Ave., with burial of ashes in Calvary Cemetery. Memorial visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. on Friday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, 40205.
