Obituary for Cora "Corie" Grace Neumayer

Cora Grace “Corie” (Rouse) Neumayer, age 80, died Monday, March 25, 2024 at Jefferson Place, surrounded by family.

Born in Charleston, SC to the late William and Thelma Rouse, Corie was a visual artist and much-loved retired teacher from DuPont Manual Art Magnet. She earned an MA from U of L, a BA from Georgetown College, and also studied art at Long Beach State U. (Cal.).

With an uncanny ability to make anyone in her presence feel seen and heard, Corie truly touched many lives. She taught her students to believe in themselves and to trust in their abilities. Endlessly creative, she displayed her abstract landscape paintings at many venues, especially Pyro Art Gallery, where she was a long-time member. Corie was also an adventurous cook and loved international travel, visiting over 30 countries. In retirement, she volunteered her organizational and leadership skills to create a popular annual craft fair at Nunnlea Historic Home.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Rick Neumayer; her daughter, Caroline “Carrie” Neumayer (Darcy Thompson); her brother, William K. Rouse, Jr. (JoAnne); her sister, Dr. Elizabeth Rouse Wong (Ed); and many loving nieces and nephews.

A private family inurnment will take place in Cave Hill Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to Nunnlea Historic Home (nunnlea.org).
