Obituary for Shawn Edwards
EDWARDS, Deanna “Shawn”, 56, of Louisville, passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2021.
She was born in Louisville and was a graduate of the Louisville Male High School class of 1982. Later in life, she earned her undergraduate and two master's degrees from the University of Louisville and Bellarmine University, respectively. Her career was her passion and she impacted thousands of lives throughout her time as the Assistant Principal at both the Westport TAPP school and Central High School. She enjoyed attending Northeast Christian Church, playing tennis, all types of music, trying new restaurants, and was an avid UK fan.
Shawn was preceded in death by her husband David Downs; parents, Dean Edwards and Jean Stratton; father-in-law, Norman Downs; and grandparents, Ruth & Victor Edwards, Shirley Boyd and Charles & Mary Boyd.
She is survived by her children, Matt Downs (Jenelle) and Taylor Blount (Tyler); siblings Kim Owen (Greg), Barry Edwards, Brian Poole (Heather), Laura Tomes, Kim Brewer (Jerry) and Brian Downs (Karen); aunt Debbie Edwards; mother-in-law Carol Downs and her step-father, Dan Stratton; nieces and nephews Jessica, Rachel, Whitney, Ella, Brody, Amanda, Nick, John, Joe, MaryBeth, Chaeli, Ryan, Morgan, Casey, and Rachael; and several aunts, uncles and cousins whom she loved dearly. Shawn is also survived by her amazing friends she made throughout her life, especially through tennis and her job.
Shawn’s funeral service will be at 12:00 pm on Monday, March 29 at Immanuel Baptist Church, 850 S. 4th Street with burial to follow in Louisville Memorial Gardens East. Visitation will be from 2-6 pm Sunday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, and at the church on Monday from 10 am until time of service.
