Obituary for Dennis Eugene Kurtz

Dennis Eugene Kurtz
Dennis Eugene (Denny) Kurtz,
82, passed away peacefully on March 9th, 2018 after suffering with Parkinson’s disease and from a broken heart at the loss in 2016 of his loving wife of 57 years Mary Angela Guarneschelli Kurtz. We rest easy knowing that he is reunited in heaven with Mary Angela, having a Manhattan, and cashing a trifecta where everyone is a winner. His horse finally came in and they are throwing a big party much like their famous annual New Year’s Eve parties! We also know he is now enjoying a great foursome of golf and reveling at catching the state record giant bass. In addition to Mary, he is predeceased by his parents Margaret Kurtz and Eugene Homer Kurtz, sister Janet Brenzel, brother in law Joseph P. Holt and special aunt Catherine Gleason.

Denny is survived by his four loving children; daughters Lisa Kurtz (Joe Kennedy) and Kathy Maxwell (Rob); sons, Dennis Kurtz Jr. (Mark MyGrant) and Chris Kurtz (Terri), 8 grandchildren; Caitlin, Walker and Claire Kennedy, Chuck and Will Aiken, Allison, John and Patrick Kurtz and loving relatives, including the Brenzel, Guarneschelli and Holt families, many nieces, nephews and lifetime friends.
A long-time member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and a graduate of St. Francis of Assisi, St. Xavier High School (class of 1953), The University of Louisville and The University of Louisville School of Law, Denny was admitted to the bar in 1966, served as the Assistant Commonwealth Attorney and then had his own law practice “Kurtz and Kurtz” which he practiced with his son Chris until 2015.
His life time hobbies included golf, horse racing, family vacations at the Pea Ridge and fishing on the beach. He was a long time volunteer for the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Special thanks to his caregiver for the last year, Mary Ford.
His funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday morning, March 16th at 10:00am at St. Agnes Catholic Church,1920 Newburg Road, with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3pm-7pm, Thursday, March 15th at Highland Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
