Obituary for Diana Maria (Russell) O'Bryan

Diana Maria (Russell) O’Bryan, 80, of Louisville, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Sunday, January 28, 2024.

Diana was born on February 1, 1943, in Louisville, the daughter of John Duffy Russell and Theresa (Mackin) Russell.

Surviving Diana are her beloved daughters, Terri (Michael) Schnurr and Karen (Jeff) Gapen; grandchildren, Jack, Nathan, William, Anna Grace and Sam; siblings, Jack (Barbara) Russell, Mary Jane (Bob) Adams, William Clem (Rose) Russell, Ronnie (Shaun) Russell, Rennie (Ron) Kurtz, as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Diana graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Louisville, KY. She was a diagnostic medical sonographer and worked as an ultrasound technician for the late Dr. Mahan and late Dr. Sweitzer at Baptist East for over 25 years. She loved the medical field and was always seeking opportunities to advance her knowledge and expertise in her profession.

In addition to her career, she had a passion for helping others. She volunteered at the Home of the Innocence, Hosparus as a grief counselor, the Franciscan Kitchen, and St. Vincent DePaul, to name a few.

Diana was a very loving mother, grandmother, and sister to her siblings. She adored her family and always looked forward to holiday gatherings and the many family functions and events. Her 5 grandchildren were everything to her. She enjoyed spending one-on-one time with them, texting and talking to them on the phone, and attending all of their sports events. She relished any of their accomplishments, big or small, and was beyond proud of them. She had a zeal for living a healthy lifestyle, which included long walks through Anchorage Park, eating fresh organic food and listening to relaxing music.

Diana was kind and generous and would gladly help anyone she met. She was articulate and sophisticated in her demeanor and displayed an obvious gratitude for those who helped her. She lived an abundant and happy life. Despite the tough medical challenges she faced this past year, she exhibited strength, courage, determination, humility, and an unwavering hope for brighter days.

She spent the last six months at the Episcopal Church Home where she developed many new friendships with the residents and wonderful staff. We will always be grateful for the care and hospitality they provided. She will be dearly missed by everyone.

Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am on Friday February 2, 2024, at Epiphany Catholic Church, 914 Old Harrods Creek Road, Louisville, KY.

Visitation will be from 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm on Thursday February 1st at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd, Louisville, KY 40205.

Expressions of Sympathy may be made to the Episcopal Church Home or the Franciscan Kitchen (formerly Franciscan Shelter House).
