Obituary for Dimitrios Gregorios Gregoriades, M.D.
Dr. Dimitrios Gregoriades, 92, passed away on May 11, 2018 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was born December 16, 1925 to Gregorios Gregoriades and Victoria Vickelidou Gregoriades in Thessaloniki, Greece.
He earned his medical degree from the Aristoteleion University School of Medicine in Thessaloniki. After serving in the Greek Air Force, he completed a residency in thoracic surgery in Missouri. Dimitrios went on to practice in France at the Paris American Hospital. He met his beloved wife, Margie, during this time. After moving back to Greece and getting married, he worked as a surgeon in the Hospital of Northern Greece, which specialized in the treatment of chest diseases. Dimitrios was beloved by his patients and respected by his colleagues. Upon retirement in 1991, he returned to the United States where he has since resided in Kentucky, his wife’s home state.
He was a faithful member of Assumption Greek Orthodox Church and Louisville’s AHEPA (American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association). Dimitrios was devoted to his family and enjoyed listening to classical music and old favorites, reading and walking. He spoke four languages fluently and loved the sea and traveling.
Dimitrios is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Margie Vance Gregoriades, a daughter, Victoria (Dave) Watkins, a son, Gregory, two grandchildren, Madison and Luke Watkins, a nephew and a grandnephew in Thessaloniki, along with many loving friends and relatives in Greece and the United States.
The family would like to thank the skilled and loving staff of Ideal Care and the compassionate people of Hosparus of Louisville for their professional help.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. (Trisagion Service at 7:00 p.m.) Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd.
His funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 930 Ormsby Lane, preceded by one hour visitation. Burial will be in Louisville Memorial Gardens East.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Assumption Greek Orthodox Church or Hosparus of Louisville.
