Obituary for Donald Rushing

Donald “Don” Glenn Rushing, 89, passed on November 19, 2022. He was born on December 31, 1932, in Louisville, a New Year’s blessing to his parents, Glenn and Marie Rushing. He is preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Dorothy King Rushing.

A lifelong Catholic, he attended grade school at St. Louis Bertrand and enjoyed lifelong friendships with a number of classmates from there. He loved his time at St. Xavier High School, playing trumpet in their marching band. On to college he went, playing trumpet in the University of Louisville marching band and graduating with a degree in History. More marching ensued in the military, where Don served in the Army. He was also a Kentucky Colonel.

Don had a great number of interests and hobbies. He bowled for most of his life in various leagues and loved playing golf with his family and friends. Needless to say, history and the Cards were huge on Don’s list of interests. He loved to travel and those lucky enough to travel with him enjoyed “the built in tour guide.” Don was a joy to talk to, full of interesting stories and a good ear for listening. He was known for his kindness, good humor and sunny disposition. He loved his family and friends.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Lauren Rushing-Agnew and Kim (Troy) Finsel; and his grandchildren, Alexander and Audrey and numerous friends.

Visitation will be held at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd, on Tuesday, November 22nd, from 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass is scheduled at St. Louis Bertrand Catholic Church, 1104 S. 6th Street, on Wednesday, November 23rd at 9:30am. Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Mass on the Air or Dare to Care.
