Obituary for Doris Henry (Gerth)
Doris Gerth Henry, 95, of Louisville, died April 5, 2022 at her home in Jeffersontown, Kentucky. She was the daughter of Emil and Sophia Grant Gerth. She was preceded in death by her parents and spouse of 66 years, Robert (Bob) Bell Henry, Jr.
A 1944 graduate of Fern Creek High School, she attended Transylvania College in Lexington, Kentucky and graduated from the Bryan Stratton Business School in Louisville. She was the secretary for the Deputy Director of Airports at Bowman Field meeting her future husband, Bob, through this connection. She later held other jobs but especially enjoyed her work as bookkeeper for Christ Lutheran Church Kindergarten.
A lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church, she was very active in the church community, as Sunday school teacher, choir member, Den mother, Women’s Circle and the Tuesday Friends group, where she made many quilts for charity. Doris also participated with enthusiasm in a gardening group on church grounds and could be found most Wednesday mornings there. While serving on the church’s property committee, the church was awarded several Beautification awards from the City of Jeffersontown.
Doris also enjoyed gardening at her home on the farm on which she was born. She had many hobbies and was an accomplished seamstress, needle worker, crafter, and quilter. She especially enjoyed the beach and traveling to visit her family.
She is survived by her twin daughters, Jane Daly (Peter) and Janet Jospé (Robert), and her son, Robert (Donita), three grandchildren, Lauren Rogers (Brandon), Samantha Raybould (Ben), and John Daly, and four great grandchildren, Hunter and Audrey Raybould and Walter and Stella Rogers.
Visitation will be held from 1-3 PM on April 9, 2022, at Christ Lutheran Church, 9212 Taylorsville Road, Louisville, KY with funeral service to immediately follow at 3 PM at the church. There will be a private burial at Resthaven Memorial Park, Louisville, Kentucky.
