Obituary for Doris Jean Staats (Green)

Doris Jean Staats, 93, of Louisville, passed away May 5, 2020 at Baptist Health. She was born September 22, 1926 in Evansville, Indiana to the late Orvil Sherman Green and Matilda Mary Flick Green. Doris was preceded in death by three siblings, Kenneth Green, Elaine Olcott and Betty Dunberg.

Doris will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and friend who encouraged others and gave freely of her time and resources. Doris was a member of Southeast Christian Church and a strong woman of faith. She held several volunteer positions at Southeast Christian Church, including Sunday School teacher and preparing newspaper for mailing.

She graduated from Shawnee High School in 1944, and used the secretarial skills she learned at Devoe and other secretarial positions prior to becoming a full-time homemaker.

Doris loved sports, especially the University of Louisville Cardinals basketball and football teams, as well as professional golf. She also enjoyed history and politics. Doris loved to laugh and enjoyed traveling with her sisters.

She is survived by her sons, James L. Staats (Patricia) of Knoxville, TN, Robert S. Staats of Louisville, KY; two grandchildren, Paul L. Staats and Jason E. Staats of Knoxville, TN; sister, Marilyn Guy, Norwalk, IA: and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her funeral service and burial at Resthaven Memorial Park will be private.
