Dorothy LaVerne Elliott passed on February 23rd, 2022. She went peacefully in her sleep and in the company of family at the age of 100. She is immediately survived by her son Tommy Alan Elliott, two grandsons: Clifton Gregory Elliott and Alan Christopher Elliott, and two great grandchildren: Henry Clifton and Hayes Benjamin Elliott.
She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters: James E. Riggs, Virgil A. Riggs, Charles Lester Riggs, Dennis Riggs, William “Bud” Riggs, Winfred W. Riggs, Melvera DeLois Riggs, Anna Louise Riggs, Vivian Rose Riggs Bass, Lillian Evelyn Riggs Smith, Minnie Mae Riggs Briles, her son William Clifton “Jackie” Elliott, and
her husband, Clifton L. “Jack” Elliott.
Dorothy was born and raised in Brandenburg, KY as one of twelve children parented by Flora and William Riggs. She met her husband Jack while she was a waitress and he was stationed at Ft. Knox. They were married April 10th, 1943 and stayed together until his passing on November 13th, 1995. She was a hard worker, retiring from National Distillers after 30 years, then going on to work at her church’s Mother’s Day Out program and then the Dollar General until she retired in her 90s.
Dorothy had 4 big loves in her life: God, family, Bethany Baptist Church, and gardening. Always loving and willing to give, she was compassionate and helpful to anyone who was in need. Her kindness, tenderness, and love will be missed.
