Obituary for Dorothy "Camille" Smith Martin
Dorothy “Camille” Smith Martin, passed peacefully on April 8th, 2024.
Camille was born in Waco, Texas on November 19th, 1926, to parents Effie Vick and Leslie Smith. She later married Damond Scott Martin and had three daughters: Anita Smiley, Cheryl Allen (John) and Marcia Gering (Fred Shuck).
Camille was a dedicated teacher for JCPS for several decades. She was also an active member at Southeast Christian Church and St. Matthews Baptist Church, where she enjoyed time with her wonderful prayer group who had been together for over 10 years.
She was a resident at Brownsboro Park Retirement Community where she had many friends and enjoyed leading Fourth of July and holiday musical performances with the other residents. A longtime piano instructor, Camille enjoyed sharing her love of music and hymns with her students.
Camille was preceded in death by her parents, Effie & Leslie Smith; her husband of 65 years, Damond Martin; sons-in-law, Alan Gering & John Smiley; and grandson, Randy Fields.
She is survived by her three daughters, Anita, Cheryl and Marcia; her grandchildren, Scott Fields, Chris and David Allen, Lori McCauley and Beth Downes; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Camille was the most grateful, faithful soul who strongly believed that happiness is a choice. A celebration of her life will take place at a later date.
