Obituary for Dorothy Mae Steinlage (Schwarzer)

Dorothy Mae (Dot) Schwarzer Steinlage, 90, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2018 at the University of Louisville Hospital.
She was born, February 24, 1928 in Louisville, Ky to the late William and Bertha Schmoll Schwarzer.
Survivors include her children, John William Steinlage, Jeannine Louise (John) LaBoon, Judith Steinlage (George) Ahlborn; grandchildren, Kristen Laboon (Al) Wade, David Joel LaBoon, Jenna Steinlage Ahlborn; and two great grandsons.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. Forrest Frank Steinlage, and her siblings, J.D. Schwarzer, Louise Mudd, and Rita Ballard.
Dot was a long time member of St. Martha Catholic Church where she was a member of the Alter Society and Senior Club.
She devoted her life to the teaching of gymnastics and physical education. She was a member of the American Turners of Lousiville, and spent her career instructing classes and coaching competitive gymnastics teams. She also competed in gymnastics herself, as well as performing in the annual Louisville Turners Circus.
Dot was a founder and charter member of River City Turners. She led many River City teams to National Turner Festival awards.
Most notable among her many awards include the American Turners National Honor Key Award and the Kentucky Gymnastics Hall of Fame.
She liked sewing, travel, and being with her family. She was loved by everyone who knew her, and inspired everyone to live an active and healthy life.
Visitation is from 3:00 to 8:00 pm, Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Highland Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, Louisville, KY 40205. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am, Friday, December 14, 2018 at St. Martha Catholic Church, 2825 Klondike Lane, Louisville, Kentucky 40218. Burial will follow at Cave Hill Cemetery.
