Obituary for Douglas Gerald Bailey Sr.

Douglas Gerald Bailey, Sr., 91 of Louisville passed away on Monday, July 31, 2023.

Doug was born on August 7th, 1931 in Cannel City, KY to James Russell and Fairy Bailey. As a baby he and his family moved to Ashland, KY and then to Louisville in 1942. He graduated from Ahrens Trade High School then he joined the US Air Force Reserves serving active duty during the Korean Conflict and assigned to Intelligence. After that he graduated from IU Southeast and U of L with a major in Management/Marketing. He studied Air Command and attended Staff College. He was in the Civil Air Patrol. He retired from G.E as an engineering and marketing specialist. Doug loved flying and had his Commercial Pilot license. He also had many hobbies that included scuba diving, photography, archery, golf and boating. He was a very active member of St. John Lutheran Church, Lyndon Masonic Lodge F&AM#960, Scottish Rite, the Flying Fezzes of Kosair Shrine, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and the KY Colonels.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, James and John Bailey.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Bartella Bailey, his daughters, Leonora Weisbach (Eric) and Laura Bailey, his son, Douglas Gerald Bailey Jr., (Sharon), grandchildren, Evan, Jamie, Sarah, Jillian, Skylar and Grayson, and one great granddaughter, Bailey.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 3rd from 10am-11am with a memorial service at 11am at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. Burial will follow at Cave Hill Cemetery.
