Obituary for Douglas "Doug" Landenwich

Douglas Joseph Landenwich, passed away Monday, January 25, 2021, at the age of 66.

As a young man, a drum solo often echoed through the open windows of the third floor bedroom Doug shared with his teenage brothers, sometimes bringing neighbor complaints and sirens to the home on Baringer Avenue.

Undeterred, Doug went on to be drummer in the Louisville band, The Thunderbirds, making an album and securing a spot on LRS-102 radio. A creative and thoughtful man, his love for music and creating continued throughout his life.

Doug was quiet and reserved, yet strong and resilient. His devotion and unconditional love for his daughter Amy was his greatest joy and motivation. It was his proudest moment to see Amy graduate from college and become an amazing, successful professional woman. He is remembered as one of the greatest dads with a life full of cherished memories and fun anecdotes.

An artist and craftsman, Doug hand-made personal gifts for family weddings and birthdays always with a thoughtful and caring heart. He was known for his ability to make anything from nothing. A passion for Native American tradition and Indian artifact restoration also brought him much joy in his later years; often participating in events with the Falls of the Ohio Archeological Society with friends made over the years.

Doug devoted 24 years of his life to his profession as a picture framer at Bluegrass Frames, and was renowned for his sarcasm and daily banter. The ties with his work family meant so much to him.

A Trinity High School grad, an avid Louisville Cardinals fan, a skilled picture framer, a lover of plants, and bourbon enthusiast, we remember his wit, his sarcasm, and his kindness.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Amy Landenwich (Mitch); siblings Tony Landenwich (Jackie), Sue Landenwich (Annie), Ralph Landenwich (Mary Frances), Scott Landenwich (Teresa), and Joe Landenwich (Kelly); along with many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Expressions of sympathy may be donations to Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest, a place where Doug always enjoyed. Condolences may be submitted on the Highlands Funeral Home website.
