Obituary for Edgar R. Puthuff, Jr.

Edgar Reynolds Puthuff, Jr. 88, of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away on April 3rd, 2024. He was born in Louisville, KY on July 17th, 1935, the son of Edgar and Lottie Bills Puthuff.

He was a graduate of Culver Military Academy in Culver, Indiana where he was a member of the prestigious Black Horse Troop, an organization that has marched before and escorted an array of national and international dignitaries and historical figures.

Edgar served in the Air National Guard, United States Air Force. He had appointments to West Point and Annapolis, but chose to attend the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor Michigan where he was a member of the golf team and earned his bachelors and master's degree. He married his late wife, Ann, in 1965.

While in Michigan, he was a member of the Battlecreek Country Club and Country Club of Detroit.

Edgar moved to Chicago where he worked as manufacturing representative for IBM. Upon returning to Grosse Pointe, Michigan, he began a business venture, Miller & Puthuff Associates. He was also an active member of the Masons, Shriners and The American Legion.

In 2007, he retired to the city of Fort Myers, Florida.

Edgar was preceded in death by parents; his first wife, Ann in 2010; and his son-in-law, Paul Benstine.

Surviving are his loving wife, Jean; his daughters, Peggy Benstine and Jennifer Scholten (Brad); and grandchildren, Robert, Rebecca, Luke, Noah, Suzanne and Jack.

Visitation will be 11:00 am – 12:00 pm, on Thursday, April 11th, with his funeral service at 12:00 pm at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road. Burial will follow at Cave Hill Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Feed The Children, Tunnel to Towers or American Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals ( ASPCA).
