Obituary for Edward Thomas Frederick

Edward T. “Ed Fred” Frederick, Sr., age 85, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, September 9, 2023. He was born on July 11, 1938, in New Albany, Indiana.

Ed was a loving and loyal son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend. Those he leaves behind know that he has achieved his humble prayer to “be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with God forever in the next.”

Sober for 38 years, he was a member of the Alcoholics Anonymous community and a mentor to countless people who passed through his life as they were finding their way. His commitment to a life of gratitude and acceptance governed his relationship with self, others, and his Higher Power.

He is survived by his sons, Brent T. Frederick (Carmen), Brian E. Frederick (Jennifer), and Edward T. Frederick, Jr. (Kelly), and stepchildren Clay N. Reherman and Lauren C. Reherman (Gavin); grandchildren, Bradley T. Frederick (Alicia), Kristin M. McGee (Michael), Dallas J. Stoller, Joshua B. Frederick (Colleen), Sarah K. Frederick, Kathleen M. Frederick, Bailey N. Frederick (Brittany), Mason E. Frederick, Mary M. Reherman, Elizabeth J. Reherman, and Catherine L. Reherman; great grandchildren, Arya, Bennett, Brooklynn, Clark, Clara, Cruz, Declan, Knox, Landry, and Owen; siblings Mary C. Frederick, Therese R. Wheatley (Gary), John J. Frederick (Mary Ellen), sister-in-law Judith C. Frederick; and his beloved friend, Peggy Parrish.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph H. and Mary C. Frederick; his wife, Mary Ann Frederick; his stepsons Leo L. Reherman, Jr. and Gavin P. Reherman; his siblings Frances M. Schwartz, Ann C. Alm, Joseph H. Frederick, Jr., Samual R. Frederick, Lawrence R. Frederick, and William P. Frederick; and his brother by another mother Michael M. Strange (the World’s Greatest Euchre Partner).

Visitation will take place Thursday from 3-8pm at Highlands Funeral Home 3331 Taylorsville Rd. Louisville, KY.
Funeral Service will take place at 11am Friday with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
