Obituary for Elizabeth S. Link

LINK, ELIZABETH (BETTY SCHROERING), 80, entered into eternal life peacefully on Tuesday, December 14, 2010at Nazareth Home.
Betty was born in Louisville on November 12, 1930, graduated from Sacred Heart Academy and attended Ursuline College. She married the love of her life, Lawrence R. Link (Larry) on April 21, 1951 at St. Francis of Assisi Church. Their marriage was blessed with eight wonderful children. Betty and Larry were members of St. Raphael the Archangel Church for many years.
Except for a short time at the Voice of St. Matthews as a feature writer, Betty was a full-time homemaker. In 1968, while living in Silver Spring, MD, she was 1 of 50 women from various career backgrounds to be honored at the White House by President Johnson's wife, Ladybird Johnson, for her role as homemaker. Betty fulfilled this role to perfection! She was a loving and faithful wife and a kind and caring mother and grandmother, who had many wonderful lifetime friends. She had a loving and compassionate heart. Betty found her strength in God, as the source of her unconditional love; her charity was endless.
For many years, Betty also enjoyed playing bridge with her girlfriends, many of whom she had known since grade school. When time permitted, Betty's gift for creative writing, especially poetry, brought joy and inspiration to many. She was a woman of prayer and trust who knew how to inspire others through her thoughts, words and actions.
Betty is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, Larry, and their eight children, Nancy McGinnis (Bernie, deceased), of Sherman Oaks, CA, Larry Link Jr. (Cindy), John Link (Kaye), Rick Link (Lisa), Jim Link (Judy), Mary Silva, Kathy Fehder (Steve) and Randy Link (Sarah), of Auburn ME; 19 grandchildren, Jessica and Larry Link III, John Jr., Laura and Gina Link, Sean and Shannon Link, Theresa, Rebecca and Margaret Link, Jason (Heather) and Justin Silva, Maria, Chris, Anna, Elena and Mark Fehder and Robert and Eric Link; a sister and brother, Sister Mary Rosalia Schroering, RSM and Robert "Bob" Schroering.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Gerard Bernard Schroering and Edna Sheehan Schroering; as well as five siblings, Edward Schroering, Jean Schroering Stuecker, Mary Ann Schroering Head, of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Gerard "Gerry" Bernard Schroering Jr., MD, and Carol Schroering.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Friday, December 17, 2010 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road. The funeral will be at St. Raphael the Archangel Church, Bardstown Road and Lancashire Avenue, on Saturday, December 18, 2010 at 10 a.m., with burial in Calvary Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank Betty's physicians, Esther Costel, MD and Jane Cornett, MD, and the staff at Nazareth Home for their loving and compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be given to Mass of the Air or Nazareth Home.
