Obituary for Elizabeth Paterson (Flooks)

Elizabeth “Betty” Paterson (née Flooks), 81, died at home on February 25, 2021, surrounded by her loving family and dog, Cassie.

She was born in Jackson Heights, Queens, NY, to her British and American parents, Robert and Katherine (Fish) Flooks (both deceased), and raised in Baltimore, MD.

Betty earned a bachelors degree in chemistry from Goucher College, and took her first job at Johns Hopkins where she met her late ex-husband, Christopher Paterson. They moved to London, UK for a few years, and later to Denver, CO to work at the University of Colorado.

In 1986, they moved to Louisville, where she worked in the University of Louisville departments of Ophthalmology, and later Neurological Surgery, until her retirement.

Betty was a devoted friend, a good neighbor, a lifelong benefactor to numerous charities, and a Ruby Lifemaster American Contract Bridge player.

She loved animals and the performing arts, especially the symphony. Independent in spirit, dignified in comportment, and always loyal, Betty fostered and maintained many lifelong friendships. She will be sadly missed.

Betty is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Stacey; son-in-law; Nick; son, Andrew Paterson; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth; and two grandsons, Cole and Levi. A private ceremony will be held at a later date for immediate family.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to your local Humane Society or Animal Rescue would be her wish.
