Obituary for Ellen Marie Briscoe

Ellen Marie Briscoe
Ellen Marie Briscoe, 64, passed away Monday, July 2, 2018 after a difficult five year battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Ellen was born November 5, 1953 to Mary Ann and Raymond Froman. She was a lifelong Catholic who graduated from St. Boniface and Mercy Academy. At age 18, she began working and going to college part time. She went back to school later in life and earned her bachelor’s degree from Indiana University; the first in her family to earn a college degree. Ellen worked for over 20 years in state and local government. She was a fundraiser for the Louisville Zoo, a licensed realtor, and she finished her career overseeing construction projects for the University of Louisville.

Ellen loved to travel, play tennis, work on jigsaw puzzles, read books, listen to music, and above all, spend time with her husband and be the best mother possible to her son.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, John Froman.

Ellen is survived by her husband of 35 years, Danny; the joy of her life, her son, Daniel and her future daughter-in-law, Emma Gardner; sisters, Mary Rae Mattingly, Paula Sweatman, and Margaret Spink (David); many wonderful nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews; as well as her two best friends, Joy Bethany and Ann Bergman.

The family extends special thanks to the staff at the Memory Care Unit at Belmont Village and the outstanding team at Hosparus responsible for her care.

Visitation will be from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd.

Ellen’s funeral will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 9, 2018 at Highlands Funeral Home with burial to follow at Cave Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Ellen’s name to St. Boniface Catholic Church, the Alzheimer’s Association or Hosparus of Louisville.
