Obituary for Elsie Kehrer Griffin

Elsie Kehrer Griffin, 98, of Louisville, was welcomed into Heaven on September 10th, 2022, after a long, full life. Elsie was born on April 30, 1924 in Louisville, KY. Elsie graduated from Valley High School in 1942, where she played field hockey. Elsie married the love of her life, Albert “Roy” Griffin in 1942 and they enjoyed 58 years together. For all those years and up to the present time, Mom’s memory of anything and everyday life was nothing but unbelievable. Elsie was a smart lady, great mom and grandmother, and never forgot anything. A true survivor. We were blessed to have her all these years.

Elsie was preceded in death (2000) by her husband, Roy; brother, John J. Kehrer; sisters, Emily Tierney (husband, Jack) and Mary Catherine Reesor (husband, Joe); and nephew, Jack Tierney. Special friends who preceded her in death were Hilda Meyer, Betty Whitlow, and best friend and neighbor, Rosie Snellen.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Albert “Buddy” Griffin and his wife, Barbara, and her only grandson, Clint Griffin; her daughter, Rebecca “Becky” Meisner and her husband, Tommy Meisner; nephews, Chris (Penny) Tierney, their children, Ashley and Mia Tierney; John (Francie) Tierney, their children, Mark and Molly Tierney, who spent many fun visits with Mom; and John Kehrer; nieces, Mary Jo (Ed) Brown and their son, Eddie (Brittany) Brown and their son, Andrew Jackson Brown; Deb Kehrer; Kathy MacDonald and her children, Katie (Josh) Fruchtman and their children, Ev, Eliza, Matthew, and Scott (Oliva) MacDonald and their children, Lucy, Lilah, Lydia, and Landis; Nancy (Jim) Wiese and children, LeeAnn and Rob; Candy Shade (Ron) and daughter, Tammy, and her son, Colton; good friend, Diana Whitlow Cotton; and many friends at Traditions at Beaumont.

In 1943, Elsie and her sister, Emily, traveled by train to San Diego, CA where they reunited with their husbands while on leave from the U.S. Navy. After serving 3 years for the U.S. Navy, Roy and Elsie settled in Louisville, and over many years, enjoyed traveling with her sister, Emily, and Jack. For many years, they attended PT Boaters reunions and were members of The Moose Lodge. Elsie worked for Sears and Ben Snyder-Dixie Manor. Elsie was an excellent seamstress, chef and pinochle player. During the late 70s and early 80s, Elsie and Roy enjoyed family time at Rough River Lake. They were members at Chapel Hill UCC where they enjoyed years and special memories with their friends and family. Elsie was a dog a lover and enjoyed fun times with our fur babies.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Sept. 14th, 2022, 11:00 am – 1:00 pm with a service to follow at 1:00 pm at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road. Burial will be at Cave Hill Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to Roy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hosparus, who provided wonderful care for Elsie, or the Jewish Hospital Heart and Lung Center. The family extends their blessings to Angie Ethridge, NP who was always there to help Mom. Special thanks to the Traditions at Beaumont staff, especially Sara, Director of Wellness, and the PCAs, who lovingly cared for Mom.
