Obituary for Frances A. Flaherty (Micheal)

Frances A. Flaherty, 94 of Louisville, passed away on Friday, March 22, 2024.

Our beautiful mother finished her journey home to Jesus. Such a faithful and loving journey it was. Mom recognized early the importance of her faith and calling to serve others selflessly. She was a passionate teacher of scripture and followed the Word as a guide for her life. Sacrificial love was her way and she put the needs of others before herself. She loved people, was social, helpful, incredibly involved in her Church, embraced all, and saw the goodness in God’s children. Mom spent 44 years as an RN healing the physical needs of her brothers and sisters. She volunteered at hospice to assist individuals and families in their time of need. Mom worked hard, was the smartest person in the family, had a witty sense of humor, and made sure her children and grandchildren had whatever they needed. Mom’s motto was “love always” and she did.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Thomas A. Flaherty; one son, Thomas A. Flaherty; her parents, George and Mattie Micheal; one sister, Virginia Flaherty; one brother, George Micheal; one great grandchild, Julia Palazzo; and son-in-law, Mike Layman.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Pat Layman; her sons, Thomas M. Flaherty, Michael A. Flaherty (Ann), Christopher B. Flaherty (Erin); daughter in law, Karen Flaherty; 9 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 26th from 4:00pm - 8:00pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. Her Funeral Mass will be Wednesday at 12:00pm at Our Lady Of Lourdes Catholic Church, 508 Breckenridge Ln, Louisville, KY, 40207. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
