WEST, DR. G. ALLEN JR. was born May 3, 1915 in Leliaton, GA and died October 29, 2010 at his home in Louisville.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Kitty.
He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Jean; his sister, Lucille Hathaway, of New Smyrna Beach, FL; his children, Janet Dillard (Coy) and George West III (Julianne); Jean's children, Lisa Mauney (David) and Richard Lamb (Sandy). He loved his 10 grandchildren as well as his 12 great-grandchildren.
After graduating from Stetson University he earned his Doctorate of Theology from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville. Dr. West began his ministry while a student at Bagdad Baptist Church in Bagdad, KY. In 1942 he became the first pastor of Woodmont Baptist Church in Nashville, TN and served there for 25 years. In 1967 Dr. West took a position as executive director of the Long Run Association in Louisville. A love for missions guided his ministry and his heart was made full by serving others. Dr. West never lost his passion for prayer. He prayed daily for all of us and for friends everywhere-always glorifying his Father, until He took him home.
Services will be held at Walnut Street Baptist Church, Louisville on Monday, November 1, 2010 at 11a.m. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
