Obituary for George Leon Buehler

Louisville – BUEHLER, George Leon, passed away under hospice care at Magnolia Springs East
on Saturday, November 25, 2023 with his children and his loving caregiver nearby. He was 79.

George was the beloved husband of Betty Buehler, to whom he was married for 54 years;
father of Jennifer Buehler (Mark Patrick) of St. Louis and Adrienne Jones (Chad) of Canton, GA;
grandfather of Ethan Buehler Patrick of Ann Arbor, MI; and uncle of Belinda (Bert) Sedoris and
Barbara (Marc) Gritton.

Born in Louisville, KY on February 22, 1944, George graduated from the University of Kentucky
with a degree in chemistry. He spent his entire career working for United Catalysts, previously
known as Girdler Chemical, later known as Sud-Chemie. He started out as a bench chemist,
later became a salesman, and retired as Vice President of the Fats and Oils division. He traveled
the world for his job, making extended trips to Mexico, South America, Germany, China, Japan,
and Malaysia, but he always said the best meals were the ones he ate at home, and the best
bed he slept in was his own.

George was hard working, motivated, and curious. After learning woodworking from his father-
in-law, he used those skills to make countless picture frames for Betty’s cross stitch projects. He
built heirloom quality furniture for his children and grandson that they will treasure forever.
After he became interested in growing bonsai trees, he became active locally in the Greater
Louisville Bonsai Society and nationally in the American Bonsai Society, for which he served on
the board of directors, as treasurer, and as president. Some of his happiest days were spent
working in his woodshop and cultivating his bonsai trees.

George will be sorely missed for his humor, tenacity, and devotion to his family. The loneliness
he felt during the past two years without Betty was eased by the companionship he found at
Magnolia Springs East. He received additional comfort and support from his devoted caregiver
team from AMS Healthcare Staffing.

Expressions of sympathy in his name may be made to the Japanese Garden currently under
construction at the Waterfront Botanical Gardens, P.O. Box 5056, Louisville, KY 40255, or the
WHAS Crusade for Children, 520 W. Chestnut St., Louisville, KY 40202.
