Obituary for Gerald Lee Minnis

Gerald Lee Minnis was born March 21st, 1938 to Amos Russell and Stella V. Minnis of Indianapolis, Indiana. One of 4 siblings, he graduated Howe High School, remaining active with alumni groups until his passing. Jerry was a talented athlete, playing basketball, football, and especially baseball where he excelled, being called to a minor league training camp at age 18.

Instead, with his neighborhood buddies, he joined the United States Marine Corps, to whom he was always faithful; where he was honorably discharged after a tour in Japan. Upon reentering civilian life, Jerry attended Indiana University, working his way through school as a waiter at campus sorority houses. Jerry himself was a member of Chi Phi fraternity.

Jerry lived a successful life, first in sales with IBM, then in ownership of his own financial services businesses, remaining active in business until his passing. He moved to Louisville, KY to take a position with Shoppers Charge, where he met the love of his life, Leslie Marie Peffer. They were married in 1965, settling in the
Highlands, and later, the East End of Louisville.

Jerry was an avid reader, consuming dozens of books per year on his Kindle, as well as a talented amateur painter. He made lifelong friends, from grade school through work at IBM and beyond, that he remained close to until his passing. His greatest joy was in his granddaughters.

Jerry is survived by his children, Shannon Ullrich and Lance Minnis; their spouses, Paul Ullrich and Regan Wann; his sister, Linda Calis; and his granddaughters, Briana and Amelia, and Briana's husband, Tyler Russ.

Visitation will be 9:00 am – 2:00 pm, with a 1:00 pm memorial service on Saturday, February 18th, 2023, at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road.
