Obituary for Gloria Mae Wenz

WENZ, Gloria Mae, 85, passed away December 20, 2020.
She was born to Herbert and Thelma Cliff on April 22, 1935 in Des Moines, Iowa. Gloria graduated from North Platte High School (North Platte, Nebraska) in 1953. She married her high school sweetheart, Rodney “Rod” Wenz in 1953, and they lived in Nebraska and Illinois before moving to Louisville in 1967.
While living in Belvidere, Illinois, Gloria volunteered with the Girl Scouts and Boone County Mental Retardation Board. Once the family moved to Louisville, Gloria continued her interest in community service. In 1989 the Louisville Police Department and the Louisville Jaycees recognized her for “outstanding participation in the Neighborhood Block Watch Program”. In 2005 Rod and Gloria founded the annual National Jug Band Jubilee, a festival celebrating jug band music and its Louisville history. Gloria was an accomplished contract bridge player, and she would play the game almost every day. She was also an enthusiastic University of Nebraska football fan, and she enjoyed watching football games with her family and the Kentuckiana Huskers.
Her brother Richard Cliff, parents Herbert and Thelma Cliff, daughter Kristi Von Almen, son Glenn, and her beloved husband of 55 years, Rod, preceded her in death.
Gloria is survived by her children, Roxanne “Anne” Chase (Tom) and Jerry (Valerie); grandson Jacob Wenz (Brynn) and granddaughter Charlie Scott (Daniel); great-grandson Will Wenz; sister Norma Lowe; and numerous nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
There will be a private graveside service at Cave Hill Cemetery. Highlands Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
