Obituary for Helen Jean Hardy (Russell)

Helen Jean Hardy (Russell)
Helen Jean Russell Hardy of Louisville, KY passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday May 3, 2018. She was born August 30, 1932 to the late Dean L. and Corinne Russell. She attended grade school at Christ the King and Graduated from Loretta High School. She was preceded in death by her beloved brothers, Raymond Russell, Dean L. Russell, Jim (Wimp) Russell and Jack (Wack) Russell.
Helen was a devoted mother and homemaker. She was a devoted Catholic and an active member of St. Edward Church. She also worked outside the home for several years as a bookkeeper for the NJ Schnurr Co., Riteway Equipment Co. and H&R Block. She enjoyed countless summers with family and friends at Lake Cumberland where she was secretary and treasurer for the Prudy Hill Boat Dock Association.
Helen spent 20+ winters enjoying the warm weather in Okeechobee FL., where she won several tennis tournaments. She loved games and was a much sought after ping pong, golf and card partner. She especially loved to play Mahjong. Helen so cherished her time with her family, especially the holidays, and worked tirelessly to make sure it was a memorable time for all.
She will be remembered for her wonderful smile and elegant beauty, but most of all for the joy she brought to everyone’s life. She leaves behind her devoted husband of 65 years, Dennis E. Hardy, a sister Anne Russell Hayes, three daughters, Donna Haskell (Dan), Denise Twyman (Mike), Diana Kuriger (Jeff) and a son Joseph Hardy (Vicki), 7 grandchildren, Adrienne (Jared), Anne (Tim), Sean, John (Rachel), Josh, Kevin and Cori, 5 great-grandchildren, Grace, Ethan, Max, Symond and Mackenzie, many nieces, nephews and countless friends. A special thanks to Dr. Jane Cornett and the staff of the Morton Neighborhood at the Episcopal Church Home. Our family would also like to thank Carolyn Newton who cared for mom and always brightened her days.
Her visitation will be Sunday May 6th from 4-8PM at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. Her Funeral Mass will be 10 AM Monday at St. Michaels Catholic Church, 3705 Stone Lakes Drive, Louisville, KY 40299 with burial to follow at St. Louis Cemetery.
