Obituary for Michael Hayes
J. Michael Hayes, 29, of Louisville, Kentucky, died on Sunday, February 25th, 2024 after a courageous 10-year battle with brain cancer.
Michael was born in Louisville, Kentucky on November 8th, 1994 and was a graduate of St. Francis of Assisi, Trinity High School and the University of Kentucky Gatton College of Business & Economics with degrees in Marketing and Finance. After college, Michael worked in marketing for The Old Forester Distillery, Breakthru Beverage Group (Chicago), OvareGroup/Ad Cucina and GetChoice. He was a member of Big Spring Country Club and loved golf, travel, history and, most importantly, hanging out with his many friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Eldon and Winnie Hayes and George and Tootie Atzinger; his uncle, George “Boots” (Marlene) Atzinger; and his aunt, Teresa Atzinger (Henry) Hunt.
Michael is survived by his parents, John and Jeannine (Atzinger) Hayes; his sister, Grace Maire Hayes; his aunts, Mary (Rod) Cory, Diane (Pat) Riggs, Kathy (Bobby) Mefford, and Cindy Atzinger; his uncles, James (Sarah) Hayes, Michael (Kari) Hayes, Mark Atzinger, Michael (Marsha) Atzinger and John Atzinger; and many cousins.
Everyone who knew Michael will miss his love of life and charming personality. In lieu of flowers, his family would be grateful for donations made in his honor to Hosparus Health Louisville or Olmsted Parks Conservancy. We are thankful for his many caregivers, especially Dr. Brian Williams and Dr. Guneet Sarai of Brown Cancer Center.
Michael's memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Saturday March 2nd, 2024, at St. Brigid Catholic Church, 1520 Hepburn Avenue, with burial of ashes at a later date. His memorial visitation will be from 3:00 pm -7:00 pm on Friday, March 1st, 2024 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road.
