Obituary for Jack STEARNS

STEARNS, Jack R., 75, passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2010. He was a Methodist by faith and a General Electric Retiree. Jack was born and raised in Wayne Co. Ky., He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War, a graduate of Cumberland College, Williamsburg, KY., and Eastern Ky. University, he held a Master of Science Degree from U of L, and was a Licensed Professional Mechanical Engineer. As an aspiring poet and writer, he was a member of the Gaslight Writers of Jeffersontown and the Louisville Poets Guild. Jack especially loved music and derived great pleasure in his affiliation with the Joyous Singers. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Absalom and Sara Stearns; his sister, Charlotte Stearns Stringer; and a niece, Gina Ramsey. Jack is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sarah Schumann Stearns; daughter, Katheryn Stearns Ohkubo (Megumi); son, Jack Martin Stearns; grandsons, Alan, Jonathan, and Joseph Ohkubo; brother, Joseph Martin Stearns; three nieces, Diane and Janet Morrow, and Sandy Clark; and his beloved doggie, Charlie. Funeral services will be Monday, April 12, 2010, 11 a.m. at Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd., with burial in Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, at the funeral home from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Memorial Contributions may be made to Joyous Singers c/o Christ Church United Methodist, 4614 Brownsboro Rd., the Alzheimer’s Assoc., P.O.
