He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Tara, son-in-law, Chris, and his pride and joy, his grandchildren, Christopher and Caleb. Mr. Settle also leaves behind his first born, James Michael Settle. Also left to cherish his memory is the mother of his two youngest children and previous wife, Sandy Settle. Outside of his immediate family, Mr. Settle is survived by brothers Larry (Elaine), & Garry (Jackie), along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mr. Settle is preceded in death by his youngest son, Dustin Tyler, by his mother & father James E. & Margarete Settle, brothers Phillip & Roger Settle, and sister Elaine Hollingsworth. What a glorious reunion they all will share!

The family would like to give special thanks and recognition to Jimmy E. Settle for being a dear cousin and best friend to Mr. Settle. Also special acknowledgement to cousins George, Harry, and Gayle Maloney of Lexington, KY for their treasured visits, and to the many lifelong friends from Mr. Settle’s cherished years in the music industry. Too many to name as Mr. Settle was blessed with an abundance of friends throughout his life. Lastly, thank you to the staff of Valhalla Post-Acute, Norton Brownsboro Hospital, and Hosparus Health of Louisville for the care provided to Mr. Settle.

Mr. Settle was born September 5, 1942 and soon began his life long career in music, which consisted of singing & songwriting, around the age of 9 playing on stage with his father’s band, Jimmy Settle & the Bluegrass Rangers, at the Hilltop Theater. While attending Butler High School, Jimmy formed his first band, The Fabulons. Upon leaving high school, the music continued when Mr. Settle sang with a number of locally popular bands: The Trendells, The Carnations and Paul Penny, Elysian Field, Maxwell Settle & Bugbee, and Soul Inc. which had a Billboard hit with “I Belong To Nobody” and toured with Dick Clark’s Caravan of Stars in 1965. In the 80’s and 90’s, Mr. Settle spent lots of time as the lead singer for the band, Metro, singing at many festivals, fundraisers, & church dances. In recent years, Mr. Settle graced the staff & residents of his home, Valhalla Post-Acute, with his talent by singing a special tune for almost everyone he encountered.

Mr. Settle was a lover of the Lord, his family, music, Kentucky sports, and ice cream. He will be sorely missed by all who loved him but we rejoice in celebrating his life.

His service will be at 12 p.m., Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation for will be from 4-8 pm, Monday, January 4, 2021 at Highlands.
