Jennifer Steigner Fey was born February 9, 1944 to George Henry Steigner and to Dorothy Krupar Steigner in Louisville Kentucky. Jennifer graduated from Durrett High School in 1962 and next from Murray State College in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science in Education.
She earned a Masters in Education from the University of Kentucky and a Rank One from the University of Louisville. Jennifer started her teaching career at John Filson Elementary in 1966 and continued to JJ Audubon Traditional Elementary where she taught for a total of 32 years as a 1st grade teacher. After 32 years in the classroom, Jennifer began testing students who were new to America and would qualify for free public instruction in the English as a Second Language (ESL) Program. Jennifer worked 13 years at the Intake center at Hazelwood Elementary school as part of the ESL Program.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Dorothy Steigner, and Aunt and Uncle Wanda and Bob Cyphert.
She is survived by her husband, Larry E. Fey; and her daughter, Christine E. Bowman; her stepdaughters, Angela Fey Hennette (Sean), Jennifer Fey Miller (Bart) and Tammy Brill; her stepson, Lee Ehlers (Tara); her grandchildren, Rudy and Mia Miller and Sam and Leo Hennette; her 4 step-grandchildren, and 9 great step-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her cousins, Rob and Kathy Cyphert, and their children, Jeff Cyphert (Denise Vigani, and son Oliver) and David Cyphert (children Elladey and Aven), Beth Hamilton (Carl Petre); and her sons, Jon Hamilton (Amber Merriman), Patrick Hamilton (Megan Wang) and Rob Hamilton (Kimberly), and Margaret Lee Harris (Herb).
She had many dear friends from Southeast Christian Church where she was a member since 1984, Jazzercise, and Lakeside Swim Club that will miss her dearly. Also many dear students and fellow teachers that she made a significant impact upon. She will be missed and loved by all who knew her.
Visitation will be at Southeast Christian Church (Chapel in the Woods), 1407 Moser Road, Louisville KY 40299, from 10 am -12 pm on July 1, 2022. Her funeral service will be at 12pm at the church, with graveside interment to follow at Cave Hill Cemetery. Flowers may be sent to the above address. No lilies per Jennifer's request.
