Obituary for Jesse Campbell

Jesse returned to his heavenly Father Saturday, February 22, 2020. Born November 12, 1927, he was the son of the late Jesse M.Campbell, Sr. and Mary Ann Burke Campbell.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Ruth Elizabeth Whistler Campbell; stepson, James W. Stiles; two brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by his stepdaughter, Jacqueline Ruth Hughes; stepson, Richard LaMar Stiles; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Campbell was a 55 year member of St.Matthews Baptist Church where he was an ordained deacon.
Jesse was a graduate of the old Louisville Male High School and attended the University of Louisville. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served as a Sergeant Major under the 81st Chemical Group while stationed at Fort Bragg, NC. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of St. Matthews for 12 years, from 1966-1978, during which time he served as treasure, vice-president and president of the club. He was also a member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. Jesse retired from the Courier Journal Lithographing Co. (later Courier Graphics) in 1990, where he served as Director of Personnel and Purchasing Manager. Music, photography and art were his hobbies. In addition to these hobbies, he and his wife enjoyed traveling and traveled extensively in the U.S. and Canada,
After a year of retirement, he needed something to better occupy his time, so he took a job with Budget Print Center in Jeffersontown. He continued there until he retired for the second time in 2007, to devote time to caring for his wife whose health had begun to fail.
Funeral services will be held at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd, at 1 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2020, with visitation from 10 a.m.until service time Thursday. Burial in Cave Hill to follow.
