Obituary for Joan Loretta Nold (Jackson)

NOLD, Joan Loretto Jackson, 88, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed from this life on Thursday, April 1, 2021. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Joan was born in Louisville on August 26, 1932, to Roy D. Jackson and Loretto Greenwald Jackson, and she spent much of her childhood in the family’s grocery store. A graduate of Presentation Academy, Joan was married to Edward G. Nold, Jr., for over 53 years, until his death in 2004. Together, they raised seven children.

Among Joan’s greatest joys were spending time with her family, her Catholic faith, decorating her home, keeping up with current events, reading inspirational books, and dancing. She will be remembered for her love of nature, warmth, extraordinary sense of humor, and captivating storytelling.

In addition to her parents and Mr. Nold, those who preceded Joan in death were her brothers, Patrick and Roy Jr.; two sisters, Marylyn Karechi and Barbara Keenan; daughter Cheryl Ann Glassner; and grandson Vincent Alexander Nold.

She is survived by her son, Tony Nold (Jill Waits); daughters Kathy Niekamp (Wynn Simpson), Linda Reynolds (Jeff, MD), Laura Wilson (Mark), Lisa Whittaker (Doug McTighe) of Longwood, FL, and Teresa Martin (John J.) of Roswell, GA; her sister Rita Finck; 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and many other friends and family.

The family would like to thank the staff and medical team at Nazareth Home for providing Joan with compassionate care at the end of her life.

A funeral Mass to celebrate Joan’s life will take place at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 12, at the Church of the Epiphany, 914 Old Harrods Creek Road. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 11, at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 15 Audubon Plaza Dr. 40213.
