Obituary for John W. Brenner

John Wayne Brenner, age 81, passed away at Crestview Center of Shelbyville, on January 21, 2019. He was born January 3, 1938 in Harlowton, Montana, and was a graduate of Carroll College in Helena, Montana. He received a Master’s of Science Degree, Administration of Justice from the University of Louisville.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Judith Heidi McAlmond; half-brother, George Brenner; and step-sister, Barbara Allstadt.
John is survived by his beloved wife of twenty- one years, Carolyn Tuell Brenner, nee Moss; two children, Gretchen Davis, Cory Brenner (Terri); grandchildren, Alexis, Leif, Gabriel, Jessica, Emalyn; half-sister, Sharon Meldrum (Ralph); step children, Robert Tuell, Paul Tuell (Lisa), Jeanne Lucas (Mark); step grandchildren, Katie, Noah, Joshua; and longtime loving friends, Fred and Glenna Schardein.
John proudly served his country in the United States Air Force where he was honorably discharged in 1964. He moved to Shelbyville in 1967 where he entered the Kentucky State Police Academy as a Cadet Trooper. He was then promoted to Detective and worked as an undercover officer in the Narcotics Section. After being promoted to Lieutenant he became the Assistant Commander of the Kentucky State Police Academy in Frankfort. From 1987 until 1991, he served as the Commander of the Executive Security Section, Governor’s Mansion for Governor Wallace Wilkerson. After twenty five-years of dedication, John retired from the Kentucky State Police in August 1992.
John and his wife, Carolyn spent many happy hours together on their boat, the “Blue Dolphin”. They enjoyed cruising on the river with friends and family. The grandchildren would often spend time on the boat, swimming at the marina pool or fishing in the river.
Visitation will be 2:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday and 10:00 a.m.-12 noon, Thursday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, Louisville, Kentucky 40205. Funeral services will be 12 noon on Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Jay Hodge, of First Presbyterian Church, Shelbyville officiating.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the staffs of Kindred at Home, Hosparus of Louisville, and Crestview Center for their wonderful and compassionate care provided to John during his illness.
