John Frederick Bruning, 68, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on December 8, 2023 at University of Louisville Hospital. Born in Louisville on February 2, 1955 to the late William and Irma Bruning, he was preceded in death by his brother William. He graduated from the University of Michigan and returned home to Louisville in 1977, where he worked as an actuary for Capital Holding and Mercer. A beloved husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, and avid UofL fan, he is survived by his wife of 41 years, Jane; his children, Bill Bruning, Rebecca Frye (Patrick), and Catherine Bruning; and his grandchildren, Benjamin and Eloise Frye and Madeline Bruning.

His funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, December 13 at 10:00am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at 501 Cherrywood Road. Visitation will be from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Highlands Funeral Home at 3331 Taylorsville Road.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to the Blood Services program of the American Red Cross.
