Obituary for John Dexter Caswell

John Dexter Caswell passed away Sunday, October 23, 2022, at the age of 92. John was a life long resident of Louisville, the son of John Allen and Lillian Rose Caswell.
John is preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Peggy Brent Caswell, second wife, Jean Loy Caswell and stepson, Carroll Loy, Jr.
He is survived by his sister, Joyce Louden (Joe), son Brent Caswell (Cathy), daughter, Karin Pabian (Bill), stepsons, Bryan Loy (Peggy) and Wesley Loy (Benita), step daughter-in-law, Leslie Loy, four grandsons, two granddaughters-in-law, one great-granddaughter, two nieces and one great-nephew, one great-niece and many step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.
He graduated from du Pont Manual High School and the University of Louisville with a degree in Civil Engineering. He married Peggy Brent Caswell with whom he raised a family with while obtaining his engineering degree.
John lost his wife Peggy of 62 years, but was blessed to find love and happiness again by marrying Jean Loy Caswell in 2013. Through Jean’s family he gained many additional loving family members.
John’s career consisted of roles in consulting engineering and as a manufacturer’s representative, retiring from his own business. He was a lifetime member of the ASHRAE engineering society and volunteered at Louisville Habitat for Humanity for Humanity for over 20 years with dedication to helping individuals achieve the dream of owning a home.
He was faithful and active member of Saint Matthews United Methodist Church for nearly 70 years, serving in multiple leadership roles.
In addition to his love of spending time with family and friends, his hobbies included golf, woodworking, fishing and gardening. He was a devoted Louisville Cardinals fan.
Visitation will be Friday, October 28th from 2-7pm at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd and Saturday October 29th from 10-11am at Saint Matthews United Methodist Church, 319 Browns Ln, Louisville, KY 40207, with his funeral service at 11am at the church. Burial will be at Cave Hill Cemetery immediately following the service.
The family gives special thanks to Forest Springs Healthcare Center for the loving care he received there.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Louisville Habitat for Humanity or St. Matthews United Methodist Church.
