Obituary for John Richard GARBER

JOHN RICHARD GARBER, 83 of Louisville, passed away February 15, 2010. He was born to George and Inga Garber in Rhinelander, WI on December 4, 1926. After graduating from Rhinelander High School in 1944, Mr. Garber enlisted in the army and served our country in the Philippines during WWII. He returned to Louisville where he married his high school sweetheart, Carol Margaret Shipman, who preceded him in death. Mr. Garber worked for years at KY Machinery which later became Carlisle Equipment. He was an active member at St. Matthews Methodist Church, serving on many committees and as a Trustee. Mr. Garber was the loving father of Carol Getch (Richard), Dr. Jeffrey Garber (Candace), and Douglas Garber (Frank Muscarella); and the cherished grandfather of Carrie Gaerte (Scott), Jon Getch, Sarah Gaddy (Bryon), Kenneth Getch (Tiffany), Josh Garber (Sheila), Matthew Garber, and Daniel Garber. He is also survived by 6 great-grandchildren, his brother, Clint Garber, and his sister, Ruth Cahak. A service of celebration and praise for his life will be at 3:00 PM on March 6th in the Chapel at the Episcopal Church Home, 7504 Westport Rd., Louisville, KY 40222. John wished memorial remembrances to be directed to St. Matthews Methodist Church, 319 Browns Lane, St. Matthews, KY 40206 or to the Chapel at the Episcopal Church Home.
