John Paul Klimchak of Louisville, passed away on April 30, 2022.
John was a native of McKeesport, PA, a Catholic, a US Army veteran of the Korean War, and a musician. He had a long career with Rohm and Haas Co. in which he held a variety of roles. He retired from the company as an Energy Engineer. In his retirement John worked as a Docent for the Louisville Zoo.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Jean Mossholder Klimchak, and his parents, John and Dorothy Klimchak of McKeesport, PA. He is survived by his five children, David Klimchak (Anne Cox) of Atlanta, GA; Linda Wise (Tom) of Peekskill, NY; and from Louisville, Alan Klimchak (Susan), Ann O’Daniel (Ray), and Amy Pender (Dave), seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
While working full time, playing dance gigs in his off time, and raising a large family, John also attended the University of Louisville where he graduated with B.S. and A.A.S. degrees. He also received an energy management diploma from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
John served two years as President of the local energy engineers’ organization as well as two years as Regional Vice President of the International Association of Energy Engineers (IAEE). He was also awarded an Energy Management certification from IAEE as well as Energy Engineer of the Year in 1985.
John will be remembered by his children for his quick wit, his love of drumming and big bands, his never-ending quest to reduce energy consumption, his great skill in remembering jokes and delivering a good punchline, and most importantly, his great love and devotion to Jean.
John has chosen cremation. A memorial visitation will be held in his honor at Highland Funeral Home, May 19, 4pm-7pm.
