Obituary for John Richard Maupin

John Richard Maupin, 73, passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, surrounded by family. John was born to John Chester and Jennie Lee Maupin on August 29, 1948 in Louisville. He was a 1966 graduate of Dupont Manual High School and attended 3 years of college at University of Louisville - Go CARDS.

He met his wife of 52 years, Martha Ann Alvey, at Bethany Lutheran Church where they were Mary and Joseph in the 1957 Christmas program.

John had a passion for music that began at the age of 12, playing guitar. He helped form the Echoes folk group in the 1960’s and taught music at Central Music for many years. John was a store manager for O.G. Wilson and Service Merchandise for 27 years. He went on to own J.M. Maupin Coffee & Tea Company in Jefferson Mall & Green Tree Mall. Most recently he was a sales representative for Siegel’s Uniforms with clients throughout Kentucky & Southern Indiana.

John was very proud of his only son, Richard, and the man he has become. He was also proud of his two grandsons, Andrew and Cameron, who both attend Ball State University. Through Richard, Michelle Serna came into his life, who was the daughter he never had. John especially enjoyed the time he spent with them over the past couple of years with vacations and travels.

John was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Kenneth Eugene (Gene) Maupin.
He is survived by his wife Martha; his son, Richard (Michelle); grandchildren, Andrew and Cameron.
