Obituary for Joseph J. Edelen, Jr.

Joseph J. Edelen, Jr., 84, of Louisville, KY, passed away on February 19th, 2024. He was born in Springfield, KY to Joseph J., Sr. and Corinne (McIntyre) Edelen.

Joe had many titles in his life, from Navy veteran to Knights of Columbus member, but none were more important to him than husband, father and Papaw. He was also known for cracking jokes and for being one of the kindest, most loving, selfless men you could know.

Joe lived a servant's life, dedicating his to loving others. He was an avid blood donor, a champion for the unborn, and the first person to offer help to anyone in need.

He retired from Ford Motor Company in 1998 after thirty years of employment. After which, he devoted his free time to loving his ever growing family and traveling to new and fun places with his bride, Joyce (Filiatreau) Edelen.

His greatest joys in life came from his strong Catholic faith, UK basketball, and spending time with his loved ones, who all surrounded him in his final days. Even in those moments, Joe made sure that each person knew they were loved.

Joe is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joyce; his children, Charles (Leanne), Stephen (Avalena), Thomas (Andrea), Jennifer (Phil); his grandchildren, Bryan (Lydia), Britney (Mat), Joseph (Becca), Baily (Alex), Connor, Sarah, Tyler, Madeleine, Emma and Andy; four great-grandchildren, Elise, Reese, Anna, and Emmett; and close family friend, Wychoff Morris.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four loving sisters, Anne, Hallie, Sr. Sue and Betty.
