Obituary for Kathyrn HAMILTON

HAMILTON, KATHRYN MAY BROWN "KATIE," was born January 13, 1929 in Forsyth, MT to Paul and Flora Sax. She was the youngest of five children, Paul, Ken, Ward and Phil Sax. Katie grew up in Colville, WA and graduated from Colville High School in 1947, active in band and other student organizations.
She attended Washington State University, graduating with a degree in Sociology and a minor in music. She graduated Suma Cum Laude, a member of the Mortarboard Club and one of the most outstanding women graduates of 1951. She was a member of the Tri Delta Sorority and remained an active participant throughout her life.
Katie married Floyd Brown, an engineer for the Standard Oil Co. and lived in Alaska, Washington, California and Arizona, eventually settling in Louisville in the early 1960s. She began teaching in 1965 after earning her special education certificate and continued for 23 years as a teacher and head teacher for Jefferson County Schools. Katie and Floyd divorced in 1973.
Katie married Charles "Chuck" Hamilton in 1988. Together they enjoyed 15 tremendous years of travel, family, and happiness. After Chuck's death in 2003, Katie continued to reside at the Atria Stonybrook Assisted Living until her death. Katie was a fan of the symphony, ballet, film and regional theater. She was an avid reader of current events as well as dedicated viewer of politically based television. She loved a good political debate. Katie believed strongly in supporting programs which benefited others less fortunate and donated generously to these organizations throughout her life. She was a lifelong member of the Chapter L of P.E.O., a women's philanthropic organization.
Katie is survived by her oldest brother, Kenneth Sax, of Sacramento, CA; children, Scott Brown (Kathy) and Alison B. Hardaway (Dan); stepchildren, Bryon Hamilton (Ann), Kenton Hamilton (Dianne), Kristin Hamilton, Kirk Hamilton and Bard Hamilton (Sherry). Grandchildren include Ashley Chiles (Marty); Amanda Hardaway and Lindsey Hardaway; Christopher Brown and Stephen Brown. Step-grandchildren include Blaine Hamilton (Kelly), Aaron Hamilton and Morgan Hamilton.
The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and Wednesday from 1-2 p.m.
